The Dutch heritage of the Pella, Iowa area is apparent in the aptly named Volksweg Trail, which means people’s path in that language. Rolling along the scenic Lake Red Rock and all it has to offer in recreation, the trail eventually winds up in Pella, a vibrant city near the Des Moines River. On the north shore of the lake, Fifield Park  is a great place to explore or rest up before continuing on through woodlands and prairies. Keep an eye on the spectacular views of Lake Red Rock as you ride along. This challenging route features a few hills to climb with 5 to 7 percent grades, wildlife and a great variety of birds. Eagles are frequently spotted in the tail water area below the dam, which is one of the steep but short climbs into Pella.
