Praeri Rail Trail

Distance: 9.5 miles
Elevation: 108′
Route Type: Trail
Surface Type: Crushed Stone, Dirt, Grass
Cities on Route: Roland, McCallsburg, Zearing

A former railroad right-of-way between Zearing and Roland, the Praeri Rail Trail is a challenging track with a crushed limestone surface over portions of the trail as well as sections that are grass and dirt. Riders should equip themselves accordingly, as the grass on portions of the trail are mostly kept natural.

The wildlife and native prairie habitat on this trail are unrivaled; the two mile section east of Zearing offering the most diversity of wildlife in the whole section. The name is not a typographical error; the unusual spelling of Praeri comes from the Norwegian population in the area. Venture into Roland, where they’ll bid you Velkommen Til Roland!
